Week 5: Romance & Jellyfish I had a friend who kept telling me to watch the anime Princess Jellyfish, but unfortunately I never did. So when I realized we were getting a presentation on it. I was pretty excited. I actually decided to watch a few epsiodes because why not? I can finally watch anime and say its for homework or something. So here's what I thought of the anime in retrospect to the presentation of the manga. I t seemed that at times the romantic story lines took a back burner to demonstrating just how crazy the otaku female cast was, but such divergence from the main storyline was done successfully, since each of the portraits of the 'Sisterhood' were hilariously accurate.  While the story would most certainly appeal to the geek in all of us, there was plenty of  stylish  goodness for the more glamorous of anime-viewers. In addition to the main plot, there were about three sub-plots taking place at any given time which involved sex and blackmail (which...
In class response to silver spoon: After reading a few chapters of "silver spoon", I thought it was very funny. I responded to the facial expressions of the characters most. I find that type of humor, in particular, to make me laugh a lot. The way the expressions are drawn helped though. I think the comedic tone of the story is pretty consistent, which is great! At least from what I read, but it doesn’t overshadow the mystery of what’s going on and why are we here? You still want to read the story but it’s decorated with a very funny perspective. The connections I made to the story were mostly school elements. Since I was in school I could relate to learning about things I didn’t necessarily want to. Which was pretty much every class. Until college of course.
Cigarette girl While most may have found the readings to be very depressing and have a somber tone. I actually found them to have a dark sense of humor and be somewhat comical. For example, the story “cigarette girl” I actually found myself laughing quite a bit. There are a lot of adult themes, but ultimately the art style makes the experience feel as though it can’t be taken too seriously. But I feel as thought that plays on the storytelling itself. It’s a slice of life, and life isn’t always as structured and exciting as our typical 3 act story structure we are taught. I quite enjoyed reading cigarette girl and the stories within it. The art style can be a bit misleading but it actually has some very mature content.
I Saw It  This manga traumatized me. The fact that it is a true story is what makes it so terrifying. It was incredible to read the story of how Keiji experienced the Hiroshima bombing. I was familiar with Barefoot Gen, but I’ve never actually seen it or read it so being able to read this was special for me. The story of Kejij Nakazawa is truly tragic and I was highly engaged with every panel. I also thought it was nice to read a manga in color which is something rare. This hit me hard, especially the ending when his mom died. His words to her were so sad to read. She did so much for him and their relationship really touched me. I also read the comments from Keiji at the end of the manga and they were inspiring. His words about nuclear weapons were so touching, especially hearing it from him. This tragedy has really sparked his life and while it’s sad to live through, it inspiring for the world to experience what he went through. I really enjoyed reading this.
Presentation Idea: I would like to give a presentation on the evolution of American live-action anime adaptations in film. There have not been that many as of now surprisingly, but there are many on the way and currently in production. Though anime has never had a good reputation for translating into live action, I want to explore why that is as well as the evolution of it throughout the years. And why there are more and more being made now recently. For example, Ghost In the Shell, Battle Angel Alita, Netflix’s Death Note etc.

The young man and beautiful woman are sitting at a dinner table, and the waiter has just approached them asking what they'd like to eat. The man orders pancakes, and the woman says she is not hungry. 3. The woman bites the man's head off, then continues consuming his entire corpse. Everyone else at the diner is traumatized. She is a ghoul! 4. The waiter returns with a check, once the waiter notices the man is gone, the waiter begins to panic, but the woman responds and says not to worry, she will pay for the meal, with a luscious smile on her face.
